lexmark message SMTP server not set up. contact your system administrator

Lexmark MB2236adw display on printer indicates SMTP server not set up.

causing Lexmark to have a blinking red light on display.

how to remove red blinking light?

Hi John,

I am an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I would be happy to help you out with this.

From the control panel on the printer:

1 From the control panel, navigate to:
Settings > E‑mail > E‑mail Setup
2 Configure the settings.

Specifically, there appears to be a setting that is called:
Disable "SMTP server not set up" error

You can turn this to "on" to stop the error and blinking light.

I hope this has helped you. If this is not what you are looking for, please reply and let us know and we would be happy to look into providing some different suggestions!

Regards,
-Ashton

printer setting doesn't have an E Mail setting?

I see there is an updated user manual since I purchased the Lexmark back last summer.

So I downloaded the new version.

Any other suggestions? Thanks

Hi John,

Is your printer connected to the network?

It appears the only other way to change it is From the Embedded Web Server
1 Open a web browser, and then type the printer IP address in the address field.
Notes:
• View the printer IP address on the printer home screen. The IP address appears as four sets of
numbers separated by periods, such as 123.123.123.123.
2 Click Settings > E‑mail.
3 From the E‑mail Setup section, configure the settings.
4 Click Save.

Otherwise I would suggest to contact Lexmark support directly at 1-800-Lexmark
https://www.lexmark.com/en_us/contact-us.html
as they may be able to provide some other solutions.

Thank you,
-Ashton

same issue continues. I also use the usb port rather than the wireless feature.

the procedure to accomplish the SMTP error correction requires an IP address and I haven't had time to contact Lexmark to have them assist me thru the procedures in determining the IP address.

My dell system (stand alone) has not assigned an IP address so I will have to contact Lexmark to assist in the process. I can do everything I need to, but it's annoying that the issue can't be readily solved. Dell has indicated I need to contact Lexmark. I was used to the Dell printers. Dell not longer sale printers so Dell promotes Lexmark.

Lexmark only responds M thru F. Not weekend hours.

Lexmark requires the model and serial number on the Lexmark printer which I am unable to find?

Solved it!  I am connected via an ethernet cable into my network.  I assume the same steps will work for a wireless connection.

The first step is to find your IP address via Windows:

Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Lexmark Printer > Manage > Printer Properties > Ports

Find the Lexmark Printer in the list and highlight it.  Select "Configure Port".  The second box down will be the current port.  Mine is 192.168.0.108.  Yours should be close.

Cancel out everything without changing anything.

Open a browser, and type in that address.  Your printer control panel will pop up.

Navigate to:

Settings > Device > Notifications > Email Alerts Setup

Place a check next to "Disable "SMTP server not set up" error

Save and exit out.

Enjoy!
