All Printers Stopped Working After Windows 10 Update

All Printer Drivers Became Inaccessible or Stopped Working after a Windows Update:

OS Edition WIN 10 Home; Version 1803; Build 17134.48; Installed 05/12/18

Since last Windows 10 update on 5/12 all my printers stopped working.

When I try to print from an application a full list of printers appears. Some printers (e.g. Microsoft Print to PDF) is greyed out and cannot be selected, others can be selected but none works.

Settings/ Printer Scanners Does not show any printer. When I tried Add a printer, no printer was detected including my USB connected HP Printer.

Device manager shows no printers.

There is no place to select any printer and update driver.

All the missing printer drivers are listed in the Setting///Print Server Properties/Drivers

Printer troubleshooter detects all the printers but all it does is to allow me to make any printer my default. Still nothing works.

I tried all the Microsoft published fixes that I found. Nothing works.

I reinstalled my HP printer using HP app. It is now showing on tools/printers and on Device Manager.

I tried to manually install Microsoft Print to PDF.  It is not listed in the printer driver list for Microsoft.

HELP is greatly appreciated.

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1803, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Spring Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.
or
Press Control + Alt + Delete
Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen
Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart
Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

Click Troubleshoot

Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

And only if you have paid for adobe acrobat pro or online services or your OEM for printer software has agreement with Adobe within the installation, you can only view PDF files from a scan by installing free Adobe Reader.

But you cannot save as PDF if no purchase. You can save to Word if you have Office and convert Word to PDF.

Maybe a 3rd party app might let you, but I doubt it.

Thank you Andre. This will be my last option.  I don't trust Microsoft anymore.

I had one PC completely wiped out.  Lost Every file on the hard drive.  This PC is a couple of years old.

I don't like the Microsoft warning on  restoring previous version which says that I may need to reinstall some programs. Scary!!

Just go to my link and follow the procedures. Or dink around with a printer that is easy to fix and install.

Your Choice!

Everything you have mentioned and advised to do is a big waste of time for a 15 minute issue and fix.

I don't understand the response.  I only mentioned "Microsoft Print to PDF" which is included in Windows 10. I have two HP printers and several third party software printers. They all worked before the upgrade and they all stopped working after the upgrade.  Uninstalling and reinstalling my HP 3833 printer didn't solve the 3833 problem.

I have HP3833 printer installed and connected to my PC and HP6500 with driver and software installed but the printer is not connected to PC at this time.

I uninstalled all HP3833 software and removed the printer in settings. I reinstalled all software from HP site and set it as the default printer. I can scan and print test pages from the HP application. When I tried to print from word I got error message "Word can't print due to a problem with the printer setup"

I will next attempt the compatibility install that was suggested.

If you read that thread and I have installed 1000's of printers, any software and devices all the way back from XP to now 10 and I can not remember when any installation failed. Just being honest. And maybe for adobe and Office, first go to control panel>>programs and features and repair them, or uninstall and reinstall them correctly.

restart pc before reinstalls and after installs

then do the printer fix.
