Windows 10 control panel printer not showing

Yesterday my HP Office jet printer disappeared from the Devices & Printers section in the settings. The printer does work and is still listed as my default printer but I cannot work with in from the Devices & Printers screen. I have Windows 10. I tried reinstalling the printer but it still doesn't show up.

Hi Guru,

What you suggested I had already tried and that did not resolve my issue.

I decided to look elsewhere for help and found something on a site called Windows Ten Forums. Here is what I found and you might want to include this in your knowledge base:

  1. In File Explorer right click on "This PC"
  2. Click on "Manage"
  3. The "Computer Management" window will open
  4. Click on "Services and Applications" and then click on "Services"
  5. When the list of services opens scroll down to "Device Association Service" and check its Startup Type. It should be Automatic (Trigger Start). If not right click on it and open Properties. Change the Startup Type to Automatic.
  6. Then scroll down to "Device Install Service" and check its Startup Type. It should be Manual (Trigger Start). If not right click on it and open Properties. Change the Startup Type to Manual.
  7. Then scroll down to "Device Management Enrollment Service" and check its Startup Type. It should be Manual. If not right click on it and open Properties. Change the Startup Type to Manual.
  8. Then scroll down to "Device Setup Manager" and check its Startup Type. It should be Manual (Trigger Start). If not right click on it and open Properties. Change the Startup Type to Manual.
  9. Once the four services are set as in steps 5, 6, 7 & 8, reboot the computer.
  10. After rebooting check the "Devices & Printers" section in the settings. The missing printer should now show as it should.

This solution worked for me because the "Device Management Enrollment Service" setting was set to Disabled. Once I corrected it (set it to Manual) and rebooted, my problem was resolved.

I hope this helps you and others that may have my problem.

Regards,

Terry Mate
