Bad screen resolution

A couple of weeks ago I came back upstairs from lunch to find my desktop icons had become enlarged and had moved all over the screen. Was able to fix that but not the lack or crispness of my screen, or the fact that the print looks pixelated. In other words, the resolution sucks. Bought a new monitor and even had a new hard drive installed in the computer (it was still under warranty), but neither of those things worked.

The resolution is set to where it's supposed to be. All of this leads me to believe that Microsoft installed some update that has messed with the way my screen looks.

I want the old resolution back! Any advice??

With that kind of behaviour my first suspicion before any kind of hardware issue is a device driver issue.  I would suggest going onto the manufacturer's website of your graphics card and downloading the latest drivers.  Install these and see if it resolves this.

Thanks for weighing in. Unfortunately, that didn't solve my problem.

At my wit's end...

Make sure you reset monitor settings.

You can try to create a different profile on computer and see if that was profile related.

Let me know if you find any luck with that or not.

Thanks,

Ravi

Please check and make sure the following settings are Okay on your side.

Is that the main screen only which has large / Extra large icon or all the screens are having the same size?

It is not the icons that are the problem. I was able to fix those immediately after everything went crazy. It is the print that is pixelated and that is driving me crazy. Terrible resolution -- even though, yes it is set exactly where recommended. The Lenovo techs and I have been over every possibility and the settings are not the problem.

The first thing that should have been checked is the Screen Resolution. Set it to the top resolution in Settings>System> Display>Advanced Display Settings.  If that's not good enough then try the others.

If that's not enough then right click Start button to open Device Manager, click on Display device, check the Display device make/model, driver version and date against the latest on the PC's Support Downloads webpage.  If it's newer then download and install it.

Check also that all Window Updates are installed.  Type Update in Start Search, check for Updates, expedite all through requested restart.

If that's not enough then work through the Windows 10 Performance and Install Integrity Checklist - Microsoft Community to check the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance and any needed repairs get done.

ALL of that has been done, with the exception of the last (of course we have tried all the obvious stuff!). Will try the latter and let you know.

As said, most probably its the display driver issue. You uninstall the drivers and restart to see if Windows installs the correct driver. Let your PC be connected to net if Windows wants to download.

Did it happened after install of any program? Check if you have Restore Point set to the date before this has happened and you can go back to that. Ensure you don't loose any important programs etc if restoring to back date.
