Windows 10 keeps changing folder settings

Why does Windows 10 constantly change the types of columns in my folders.  This happens so many times in a single day that I can't keep count.  If I modify the columns in a folder then exit it, when I go back Windows has added extra columns and changed my view settings.

If Microsoft doesn't want me to use certain views or features they should just get rid of them.  I feel like I am dealing with a 1990's version of an Apple operating system.

Hello,

We suggest that you boot your device in Safe Mode and see if the issue persists. You may follow the steps below to boot your device in Safe Mode:

  1. Press the Windows button + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Update & security > Recovery.
  3. Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
  4. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  5. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.

Update us on the results.

Regards.

I will try this, but if it works I can't operate my computer solely in Safe Mode, I use it for work and am usually busy with very little extra time.  This problem, along with a plethora of others, did not exist prior to Windows 10.

And if that works what is our next step?  I have to use my current user account as it is work related.

Open a folder in Windows File Explorer

Set the view and columns the way you like it to be

On the View Ribbon, click the last button 'Options'

In the resulting Dialog, click 'Apply to Folders', click Apply

Now the view you prefer should not be changed by Windows 10

Seriously!

Yes, I checked to make sure the computer was plugged in and the power light was on.  The DVD / Cup holder is working fine too.

I never had this problem with previous versions of Windows.  It is something deeper than basic settings, another of many flaws in Windows 10.
