What is filling up my disk space?

I ran disk cleanup, the total file size in my C drive is 58.2GB

But my 100GB SSD has only 14GB left, any idea what is hogging the disk space?

Hi Player459709007
I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

You can execute following to gain space on your computer.

1. Analyze disk space
You should analyze your existing space with help of third party softwares and remove un-necessary files. TreeSize is most popular one and is a Microsoft Store app.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/treesize-free...

2. Use Storage Sense to delete unnecessary files
Type Storage in Cortana Search Box > Click Storage > Click Change how we free up space > Down below there is button Clean now under Free up space now which you should press

3. Check for log files in CBS directory
Go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS > Check the size of CBS.Log and if size is huge >
Type services in Windows Start Search box > Click Services > Scroll down to find the Windows Modules Installer service and double-click on it > Set its startup type to Manual > Reboot your computer

Go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS > Delete all of the files in the CBS folder (or rename and move to a backup drive) > Reboot your computer > Then go back into the Services App and set Windows Modules Installer Service back to Automatic Startup (Note CBS log files contain information about windows update.

4. Microsoft has also some suggestions to improve disk space.

Do let me know if you require any further help on this. Will be glad to help you.

Hi ,Player459709007 , this may be caused by a bug introduced into Explorer in a recent update, where is is reporting free space on drives incorrectly, it may not be . .

Windows Explorer is useless when it comes to working out where your hard drive space is being used . . .

Click the link below to download a small free utility called Treesize. Using that tool, you will instantly see where this space is being used

https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Once you have worked out where this space is being used, please let me know so I can advise on what is safe to remove or indeed what the underlying problem may be. . .

Hi,
I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

To gain space, follow the steps here:
First of all, eliminate all useless files on C:/ by using Disk Cleanup.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-open-u...

Make sure you have checked System files option after the first scan.
Also,
Treesize should tell you which files and folders are taking up the space.

https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/
It is worth checking the Users folder and its subfolders with it.

Please let us know if you need any assistance.

Seems like big chunk of it went to AppData (15.6gb) any idea i could clear up this folder manually? Disk cleanup (even with system option selected) usually only cleans like few hundreds mb, which gets filled up pretty quickly.
