I access my email clicking the Start Windows icon in the bottom LH corner. This brings up the 'tiles'.

I click on the 'Mail' tile and the emails are listed. When I open an email there is an 'Archive' tab above the email. When I click this the email disappears. I assume this has been archived but there is no folder called 'Archive' so where does this email go.

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft community.

I suggest you follow the below steps and than check.

NOTE: When you archive your email into another .pst file, all the email you choose to archive is moved into the archive file and is no longer available in the main .pst file.

1. To begin archiving your email, click the “File” tab on the ribbon.
2. On the Account Information screen, click the “Cleanup Tool” button next to “Mailbox Cleanup.”

3. Select “Archive…” from the drop-down menu.

4. The Archive dialog box displays. Select “Archive this folder and all subfolders” and select a folder to archive. If you want to archive all your email, select the node with your email address at the top.

Click the “Archive items older than” drop-down list to select the latest date for items to be archived. A calendar pops up. Select a date in the current month by clicking on the date or scroll to a different month to select a date. All items older than the selected date will be archived.

Hope it helps.

Hello,

Let me simplify this.

Archiving an email is moving and placing it in a Archive folder, where it will continue to exist but will no longer be cluttering your inbox. Moreover these mails will still be accessible in the future if required.

You can find those mails in your Archive folder. When you click Expand on topyou can find the Archive folder down there on left pane (I.e. Refer the Picture below). If you want to move the mail back to your inbox from Archive, then you can just drag them and drop to your inbox.

If you don't find a folder labeled as Archive, then try to re-launch the Mail app, after restarting your PC post complete shutdown. Do check for any available update for Mail and Calendar app from Windows Store. If any, try to update and see if problem still occurs.

If problem still persist, then remove and re-create Mail account in Windows Mail app.

  1. Launch Mail App from start menu, then click the Settings (I.e. Gear Icon) in the lower left of the Mail App.
  2. Select Accounts on the right side menu.
  3. Click the account you want to remove, then click Delete, and Yes to verify deleting the account information.
  4. Once done, click the + Add account, Select, Gmail, Yahoo, or other for the appropriate account, then input the username and password for the account, follow the prompts till complete.
Keep us posted if you require further assistance.

I followed your instructions: I checked for updates and found none, I restarted the computer, I deleted both of my e-mail accounts and added them again, but there is still no Archive folder.

Hello Greg,

Issue seems to be strange. Okay, let me gather some information to analyze the root cause.

* Which account did you configured with Mail app?(Like Outlook or Gmail or Yahoo)

* Is Mail sync without any issues?

Revert back with the above information to see where problem lies.

I have followed your instructions and Deleted the Mail as you advised

I then added the account again, not with Outlook, Gmail or Yahoo but used Other.

There is still no Expand and Archive folder. Does this Archive only appear in mail accounts opened in Outlook, Gmail or Yahoo?

@Ronnie

Yes, currently we have Archive option only for Outlook account in Mail app. We're look into this requirement for other domain account with future updates.

I appreciate if you could post you feedback by clicking Settings(I.e. Gear Icon)/>Feedback, then post your feedback accordingly. This helps us to improve your experience with future releases.

Thank you.

It's wrong to say "currently we have Archive option only for Outlook account in Mail app".

The option IS THERE, and does SOMETHING - the problem is that we have no idea what!!!

Either remove the option entirely,  disable it so it does nothing for Gmail accounts, or at least tell us where to find the damn mail - you programmed this stuff, so you must know!!!

I took a punt on the Windows10 mail app on the basis that the UI couldn't be more irritating than Gmail, but whaddya know, MS have even managed that!

PLEASE fix this so we can at last recommend a Windows mail client again....
