Hi Carol,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issues.

  1. Which document is he trying to delete?
  2. Doe the issue occur with only a particular document?

Boot the computer in safe mode with networking, and then delete the files. Once this is done, reboot the computer in normal mode and check.

  • Click on Windows key, and in the Power Options click on Restart while pressing the shift key.
  • A blue screen will appear with a few options.
Click on Troubleshoot > Advanced Settings > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • Your system will automatically restart, press 4 or F4 key to go to the Safe Mode

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help

This not the solution.  I cannot delete ANY document in File Explorer.  Get the error message "1 Interrupted Action Invalid MS-DOS function".   Additionally, anytime I open either a Word or Excel Document which was made before the switch to Windows 10, it cannot be saved with the error message about Permissions.  Please tell me how to solve these issues or I am going to roll back to Windows 7.  This is ridiculous!

Open documents on your computer. Click on document to be deleted. Click on home. Next, click on red X that says Delete. That's all I had to do on my computer with Windows 10.

WRONG.  (not you "CarolBragdon) but any Microsoft personnel.  My Win 10 says it is UP TO DATE.

I CAN NOT EVEN FIND THE DELETE COMMAND IN A FILE MANAGEMENT THAT MANAGES MY FILES and disks?

I HAVE LOOKED AT ABOUT EVERY CMD AND CAN NOT FIND A "DELETE".

IN case you never operated Win 7/XP/VISTA..... one would highlight a file,

RIGHT-CLICK mouse,

CHOOSE "DELETE"  and the file was erases to the recycle bin.

HOW IS THAT DONE IN STUPID WIN 10????????

And that goes for  RENAME, ....., etc?

Do i have to edit the stupid registry to get it to do what every windows has done for decades?

Sudharshan M K  ARE YOU  saying we can only delete a file on our C drive  in aSAFE MODE?
