File Explorer opening on startup in Win10

So, ever since I've upgraded to Win10 from 7, I've had an issue with File Explorer where it opens on every boot. I've checked the startup programs in the Task Manager and it's the same programs I had on Win7. There's no such option for anything of this nature in the Explorer window itself. I haven't tried Safe Mode yet, as I really didn't think of it until now, but what should I look for if it doesn't help the problem?

Hi Laine,

Method 2: System File Checker Scan.

The “sfc /scannow” command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, neither of those options worked. I originally started in Safe Mode, which still had the problem. Clean boot didn't solve it, and neither did sfc /scannow. I ran a virus scan with Panda Internet Security 2015 which came back clean. I also did a scan with Malwarebytes which also came back clean.

Am I really the only one to have this problem? I've done multiple searches for it in Google and have found nothing about the issue in Win10.

Well, I seemed to have fixed it. What I did was change a registry entry. I won't give any specific details, as I'm not a, for lack of a better term, "trusted" member of the community and changing registry files can completely destroy your OS. I will, however, mention that this fix was the same as a Win8.1 change about the same problem. Sorry I don't help more, but I'd rather not take the blame of ruining someone else's experience.

Could not find a solution. Called MS and the tech support ran Microsoft autoruns and found several conflicts left from the old operating system. These were deleted and issue was resolved.

Usual rubbish answer which doesn't even start to address the problem.

Go to "Personalisation" settings and "start"  click on "choose which folders appear on start!"  make sure "file explorer is in the off position!

It already was in the 'OFF' position.

This is a major bug which Microdaft don't have any answers for... well, not answers that make any sense or could be considered useful.

Funny, that setting refers to what appears on the Start bar not what starts at boot...
