Windows 8.1 - April 2014 Update (KB2919355) fails installing after first reboot (0x8007054f on input.inf update in CBS log)

Hi everyone,

I'm having issues installing the latest April 2014 update for Windows 8.1 (x64).

The update seems to proceed successfully at first: download, install from Windows Update OK, reboot needed notification.

Then when I reboot my computer for the updates to be applied, the process stops at 9%, the system restarts, then restarts on its own once again, then I'm getting the dreaded "We could not complete updates, reverting changes" screen. Then I'm directed to the login screen. Of course, I'm not getting any of the newest changes.

After running some of the DISM commands (/checkhealth) + SFC (both finished without errors or finding corruption), and checking that KB2919442 was properly installed (servicing stack version is 6.3.9600.17031), I decided to go check the CBS logs.

Found out that the update did indeed fail at 9% on the input.inf driver file (which is, if I'm not mistaken, actually actively targeted by this update if I'm trusting KB2934123), with error code 0x8007054f. It's then trying two more times before giving up and reverting all changes.

Could anyone help me with this issue?

As Microsoft announced we wouldn't be able to get later updates if this one's not installed, I'm a bit worried. Plus I'd like to get the new changes :).

Cheers.

Hi,

Thank you for the updates.

Since the issue persists, you may try the following steps and check.

You may try to disable the third party security software and firewalls, perform a clean boot and try to install the standalone package of the update and check.

Go to the Microsoft Download Center and then search for KB2919355.

Note: After you have finished the troubleshooting, refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” to boot the system in normal start up.

Note: Make sure to enable the security software on the computer after checking for the issue.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.
