"Activate windows, go to PC setting to activate windows" is stuck on my screen.

Hi,

When you did that download, it had to be the exact same Edition as was originally preinstalled

This is the Microsoft information about that error code.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-8/activation-errors

DNS name does not exist. (Error code: 0x8007232B)

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (Error code: 0x8007007B)

What it means and how to fix it

You might see this error if you're trying to activate your work PC but aren't connected to your workplace's network. If you're connected to your work network and still see this error, you might need to change your network settings. Contact your system admin for more info.

If you don't have a system admin, you might need to enter your product key again. Follow these steps:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)

  2. Do one of the following:

    • In Windows 8.1, enter product key in the search box, and then tap or click Change your Windows product key. Under Windows, tap or click Change product key, and then enter your 25-character product key.

    • In Windows 8, enter SLUI 03 in the search box, and then tap or click SLUI 03. Enter your 25–digit product key, and then tap or click Activate.

You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Did you do a Clean Install Windows 8 or 8.1 with the media MS provides at Create installation media for Windows 8.1?

If so in order to install Windows 8.1 with a WIndows 8 embedded or retail Product Key, you must first insert the default key during install as explained in Step 4 of Clean Install Windows 8 or 8.1, then after install activate with the Windows 8.1 Product Key - which should be automatic if it's embedded but if not you can read the Product Key using ProduKey then try inserting it in Activation settings.

If you did anything different than this then please explain because it is not clear.  What "code" did you download on a CD?

It doesn't make the flash stick bootable to merely download the ISO to it.  It must be saved to the PC and then written to the stick using a tool like Windows USB-DVD Download Tool.  You seem to say you booted the stick.  How did you make it bootable?

This is another reason it's best to use the Windows 8.1 Media Creation Tool from MS, since it makes the stick bootable for you.   Plus you need to update to Windows 8.1 afterwards otherwise.

Did you provide a Product Key during install?  Where did you find the Product Key, and how?  Did this PC come with Windows 8 installed?

< Link removed by CM due to Piracy Violation of C of C > that is where i downloaded it to my usb

It is not acceptable to post unofficial links to Windows downloads in this Community.

A ruling was made recently about that particular website.

Use Microsoft:

"Create installation media for Windows 8.1"

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

A similar Tutorial which may also assist you

"Create Installation Media for Windows 8.1"

http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/create-installation-media-windows-81

In the first screen of this very simple wizard, you need to choose the following:

Language. English – en-us if you're in the United States.

Edition. Windows 8.1 (Core), Windows 8.1 N, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro N, or Windows 8.1 Single Language.

Architecture. 64-bit (x64 ) or 32-bit (x86).

Rufus was the correct Program to use to make a USB Bootable, but use the official Microsoft download for the ISO.

Regards.
