Setup Wizard ended Prematurely

I am trying to install BBc Iplayer Downloader and when I try and install the programe (both normally and 'run as administrator') I get the error message 'BBC iPlayer Downloads Setup Wizard ended prematurely' as shown below:

I have also tried installing two other pieces of software for my Samsung monitor and they do not install either (but for these, an error message like the one below does not pop up, nothing happens)

Can anyone help?

Hi Michael,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

What happens when you click on Finish button?

The issue could be due to some third party programs causing the issue. I would suggest you to boot the computer in clean boot.
Clean boot will eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Follow How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot from article KB929135 to reset the computer to normal mode.

Post us the results after you try the above steps.

Hi,

Are you able to install all the other programs?

If you are able to install all the other programs, then I would suggest you to install ‘BBC iPlayer’ in compatibility mode and see if that helps.

Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other issues with Windows in future.

Hi Esther,

Did you uninstall the program completely and tried installing in clean boot?

I would suggest you to run the following fixit and see if that helps.

Same basic problem with BBC iPlayer Downloads here ... although I'm still running Ye Olde WinXP so apologies for the minor thread hijack but I'm rapidly running out of sensible things to try and nothing has helped so far :(   iplayer claims to be compatible with Win XP onwards so there shouldn't be any problem at all never mind any excuse for producing what is perhaps the most unhelpful error message ever ! Nothing of significance in event logs various and I've even tried updating Win MSI to 4.5 in case that was the issue.

Previous versions of the most recent incarnation of iplayer install and work correctly without any issues at all but the current version V1.11.0 (which is a mandatory upgrade) fails with the error message shown at the start of this thread no matter what I try.

PS: I'm not so sure that the previous post is particularly relevant as it links to a very old thread about a completely different problem with a fundamentally different version of iplayer.

Hi Michael,

As you are facing the issues only installing BBC iPlayer, I would suggest you to contact BBC iPlayer support to know if there are any known issues.

Been there, done that, ( bought the tee shirt :P ) but I'm still awaiting a response although I'm not expecting to get anything sensible back from them TBH.  I'm expecting them to simply say it's a Windows and/or MSI problem because the application doesn't even get installed so it can't be their fault !
