Problems installing Direct TV/Adobe Flash Player with Windows 8.1

Here's what I've done:

I'm using 64 bit Windows 8.1 (not RT).

Went to the Direct TV website to download their viewer so I can watch through my laptop.

It tells me that I need to download Adobe Flash Player to make it work.

When I click ok, it tells me this error message:

An error occurred while downloading the file http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_11_plugin.exe.  What would you like to do?

I would like it to work but that's not happening.  The research I've done tells me that Windows 8.1 doesn't need any updates for flash player and that's also what the Adobe website is telling me.  Direct TV tech support's suggestion was to clear the cache, which didn't work.

I'm not liking 8.1...

Hi Thomas,

As you are facing the same issue in Window 7 and Windows 8.1, it seems that the files that you are downloading have some issue. Before contacting the Direct TV player support, I suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

Try downloading the player from the link that Mike **** has provided in his/her response and check if you are able to download and install or not.

Method 2:

Try installing the player in compatibility mode and check if it helps. This is to check if the issue is caused due to any compatibility issues or not.

Refer to the following Microsoft Help article to install the program in compatibility mode.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/older-programs-compatible-version-windows

If still the issue persists, then it would be better to contact the Direct TV player support for further assistance with this issue. Also check if they have any Windows 8.1 compatible version of Direct TV player.

Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can help you better.
