Apps based on Bing crashes after updating to Windows 8.1

The weather app on my PC is working fine before the update. After I have updated to Windows 8.1 and installed all remaining Windows and Windows Store updates however, the weather app stops working every time I've boot it. I've tried running the Apps troubleshooter but it doesn't work. My graphics driver is already the latest one. Nothing happened after syncing app licences and my screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. UPDATE: Suddenly, all of my other apps that are base on the Bing service, such as News, Finance, Sports, Travel, Health & Fitness, Food & Drink, etc. are all experiencing the same thing: they crash when opening.

Hi RodrigoLode,

YES the problem continues. Earlier today I opened Bing Weather and it updated. When I closed it the sun symbol was displayed for one hour, then the live tile displayed the updated info. The live tile has not changed in the last 6 hours. Sometimes after I open it and it updates, then close it. The live tile does not display the sun symbol but still displays the out of date info. I have also seen the live tile change the info displayed but the info is 6 to 8 hours old or out of date

I am in the USA. I only have one location in my Bing Weather, New Brighton,Pennsylvania 15066 this is near Pittsburgh, PA.

Sometimes the Bing live tile can be close to correct just because the weather outside is mild without much change. I think I notice the problem because I have WeatherBug installed and can easily compare the live tiles.

I regularly run Microsoft Safety Scanner and have recently run "sfc /scannow" both are clean.  My Bing Sports and News are perfect.

guys, maybe it's worth creating another thread for the tile update issue? it has got few things in common with the subject issue.

back to the Bing crashes issue, I tried both sfcscan and the cab to uninstall Bing apps, with no luck: the former finds no issues, the latter works but once rebooted and reinstalled the apps, they crash again.

note that I am running Windows RT on Surface (1st version) and I tend to leave it as it is as much as possible (I intensively use OneDrive, Remote Desktop and similar remote stuff).

Excellent idea on a new thread.

Have you checked for important optional windows updates.

These are not automatically installed.

If you are not sure how to do this simply type "update" on your start screen then click on "windows update".

hi David,

thank you for the advice, I already did with no luck.

the issue is still there and Bing apps crash on start.

I have a Surface RT and this is clearly an MS issue that should be addressed, and maybe it is being addressed now, so pls if any from MS can investigate and give us a clue.

I too am having trouble with the apps crashing immediately.  Even store won't work.  I am current on all updates.  Two months ago I even reinstalled Windows which fixed it momentarily but the issue returned.

Have you tried the steps outlined in this support article? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2932706

Note that uninstalling just one app won't fix the issue. You have to uninstall all Bing apps and then reinstall. Windows has a fix and it should ship in April. We believe this is caused by an uninstall of an app while another one is running. It corrupts all the apps when you do that, but it might not be the only cause.

I'll give UninstallAllBingApps.cab a shot.  Will it uninstall the store as well?  That one crashes too.

That will touch only Bing apps. Not the store. Is the store crashing on boot as well or after some use?

The store is crashing.  I've tried everything I can find and nothing has worked except reinstalling Windows.  And that was only temporary.

I don't have information on the Store so I can't comment on that problem. Sorry :(. It sucks because you need the store working to reinstall the apps. Do you have a previous restore point you can use from Windows so you don't have to reinstall?
