Hi Mahfooz,

I would like to inform you that the KB number of the updates  which you have provided is invalid. You can try the following steps if you are facing issues with installing other Windows updates also.

This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is installed incorrectly.

You can try the following steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

You may try these steps to reset the Windows update components manually and check if it helps.

a. Press Windows key + X on the desktop screen of the computer.
b. Select Command Prompt (Admin)
c. On the open Command Prompt window copy and paste the commands (all at once).

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
pause

c. Exit the command prompt and check if it helps.

Method 2:

Step 1:

After resetting the Windows update components, you may try installing the updates one at a time in clean boot state and check.

A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Step 2:

If you are still facing issues to download the updates through Windows Updates, then try installing the standalone package of the updates in clean boot state:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/

Note: After you have finished the troubleshooting, refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” to boot the system in normal start up.

Method 3:

If the issue persists you can also refer to the following Microsoft article for more information.

Troubleshoot problems with installing updates

Let us know if it helps.  If the issue persists, please reply, we will be glad to assist you further.

Method 1, I thought allowed me to successfully install 11 of 12 failed updates, but when I refreshed the control panel Windows Update screen, all 12 were still available and to-be downloaded/installed.

I attempted to install the 11 of 12, not including the dreaded KB2919355, and they are all failing.

Thanks for your feedback.

Due to wifi data thieves that wormed their ways into my computer (I was using Microsoft Security Essentials as my security.) I had to do a reinstall 2 days ago.  More than half of my updates have failed since.  I keep reading but it seems no one has come across a viable answer.

If anyone can think of anything I am willing to try most anything at this point.

Hi,

Are you using Windows 8 or 8.1?  I have a solution for Win 7 x64 Home Premium only.  I thought Microsoft Security Essentials was working for everyone?

I tried method 1 that you posted, but now my Windows Update says that there are no updates, there were never any installed, and won't find any when I check for updates.  I'm not sure what to do from there?

Hi,

You'll get that error if the Wups2.dll is corrupted. To fix it do the following.

  1. Right click the Start button and click "Command Prompt (Admin)".
  2. Type (or copy/paste): net stop wuauserv and hit Enter.
  3. Type (or copy/paste): regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll and Enter. You should see a message that the command was successful.
  4. Type (or copy/paste): net start wuauserv and hit Enter.

N.B. To paste into a command prompt you have to right click and click Paste. Ctrl+V won't work.
