Windows Update Fails With Error 0x80070543

The automatic Windows update is failing with error 0x80070543. I reboot and try again but the same error occurs. There are 12 updates it is trying to do. I try individual ones with the same result. I tried installing a couple of the optional updates and it started to download but it gets stuck at 4%.

I had similar problems on my laptop about two months ago. Windows eventually got so unstable on my laptop that I had to re-install Windows.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be happening and what I can do to resolve it?

Thanks.
