KB3172729. Important update?

I have been trying to install KB3172729 for more than a month. I have tried all the suggestions on the forum that I can. I have tied up 7 or 8 technical agents for hours on end. All have said they can sort this with no trouble. None have succeeded yet. I was taken over each time and one tech level 2 downloaded a creator file. The next Tech level 2 (lost the first one) used this file and my laptop was completely reloaded, lost all apps etc, and I was able then to download 156 updates with no probs! Then along came this KB3172729 again, important update. It has now downloaded about 50 times, but will NOT install. I would just ignore it, but every time I power down, the pc wants to download and restart. This file is driving me nuts. I have spent more time on this than any other process. CAN ANYONE HELP ME, OR TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF IT PLEASE!!!?

Updates that don't install I always tell users to uninstall if you can and hide them.
Thing is not all updates are compatible with all machines.

I recommend you block it until the next cumulative update is released. Many are reporting the same problem too and it looks like this update is buggy.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?
Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

Hi. I did use this on W!0, but unfortunately it does not work on W8.1.

Sorry, it does not work on W8.1.  Is there a similar fix for 8.1?

You can download it manually for Windows 8.1 then try to install it:
