You either start your own thread here, as these are not chat rooms.

Or at least read the information already supplied here

I am 72.

All I can do is suggest that you re-read the information at the links.

The first link has listed issues with that update, namely:

Some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) firmware might not allow for the installation of this update.

To resolve this issue, contact your firmware OEM.

I have had the same problem with not only KB4535680 but also KB4598285 and KB4598502 since January 13, 2021. I've run the trouble shooter several times. Each time it says the problem has been fixed but the updates continually fail. The solution(s) presented here thus far are also beyond this 79 year old. Anyone have anything more straightforward?

@ FC Bock

You start your own thread; these are not chat rooms!

Every time someone posts here, everyone one who is subscribed to this thread receives an email with a notification about it.

Which means that the original poster and  posters trying to help them in this thread are receiving emails about other peoples problems that are not their concern.

That is why the original poster's problem is dealt with on its own with posters only replying to them to help them

So I would see if your manufacturer has an updated bios or firmware driver.  If you don't want to do that, since you are on an older platform I would hide the update.

Actually based on that error message that hints at messing with the partitions, I would strongly recommend following How to hide windows updates on Windows 8.1 – Ravi Shankar (rshankar.com) and hiding that update.  Given that this is fixing a boot loader security risk, it's an attack that can only be done from a local attacker.  My recommendation: Hide the update, go on with your life.

Thanks for your reply, Susan.

After contacting the OEM (Hewlett Packard) and receiving a quite complicated reply, I too decided that life was too short and did exactly as you suggested - hid the update and breathed again!

By the way, what do you mean by 'local attacker'?

Also, any idea how to clear 110 'Failed' reports in Windows Update History?
