explorer.exe keeps crashing/restarting every second

Hi guys,

I have run into this problem after updating my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. When I open my computer, go to desktop and click the taskbar the screen starts flashing at explorer.exe keeps crashing and restarting every second. I cannot even type anything because it crashes so quick that I type a word and then it deletes it by restarting. Currently, I am using safe mode. I have searched through the web for multiple solutions with similar cases but none of them worked for me.

Could someone help me please?

Answer
Answer

The problem may be this module:

LoadedModule[162]=C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\Engine64\21.6.0.32\buShell.dll

The buShell.dll has been reported to crash Explorer in Windows 8.1 such as in the following link - notice the KERNELBASE.dll takes the blame for the crash:

http://community.norton.com/en/forums/windows-81-explorerexe-crashing-due-bushelldll

In Safe Mode can you go the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\Engine64\21.6.0.32

In that folder right-click the buShell.dll and rename the buShell.dll to buShell.old

Then see if you can restart the computer in Normal Mode without Explorer crashing.

If so you could try uninstalling and then reinstalling Norton 360.
