I'd like to pipe in with my experiences with this update as well.  I apologize for the super long post but maybe someone will find it useful!

I have a Samsung NP350V5C laptop (i7/8gb ram/SSD) and recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 due to concerns about potentially getting a virus.  As far as I know, before wiping the computer (and deleting all original partitions) and reinstalling Windows 8.1, my laptop never had any issues with this update.

Since then I've tried everything I can think of.

On a fresh install without any additional programs every other update works flawlessly except this one...

* I've tried installing windows from an original Windows 8.1 DVD

* From a Windows 8.1 USB stick (created by the Windows Media Creator)

* Downloaded the update as a standalone and tried to install it BEFORE any other updates (excluding the pre-requisites) and after all the other updates

* Tried installing it before all drivers are installed

* Tried installing it after all drivers installed

* Run all the windows update troubleshooting steps

After doing a bit more research I read the failure could be an incompatibility with the UEFI firmware of my laptop (which doesn't make sense seeing as it installed before), so I even re-flashed my computers UEFI with the official bios image from Samsung's website (and then booted into the UEFI setup and reset all settings to the factory defaults).

The only thing that worked was disabling secure boot, installing the update, then re-enabling secure boot in UEFI setup, HOWEVER I believe this may well bypass the effectiveness of the update which applies changes to the UEFI secure boot security information (and disabling it probably stops that from happening?)

I even tried installing Windows 10 which worked fine but didn't include this update as the latest build of Windows 10 (as of this post) doesn't seem to handle secure boot the same way as Windows 8.1 did (so that may be why it didn't clash).

I would LOVE to have an expert at Microsoft suggest a fix or know why it is failing!!!

I have a Samsung NP355V5C and after 4 days of troubleshooting and 2 chats with tech support (chats from which I was disconnected without warning and got no resolution, by the way), this was the only thing that worked for me. I find it very interesting that I have a laptop very similar to yours & I too would like to hear from someone at Microsoft on this. Regardless, I thank you, Green-Light!

I have the same problem - error code 800F0922 for kb3172729 update, usıng windows 8.1 on my Casper laptop, which was bought while in Istanbul.  Not sure if the timing was a coincidence or not, but the problem started when i returned here to the US.  Just wondering if anyone else also bought theirs overseas and it that could be a potential reason for the error.  Unfortunately i know very little about problem solving other than to research.
