Unable to uninstall Windows updates

Original Title: An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were uninstalled successfully.

My Windows 8.1 trying to attempt restart after showing message that "Updates not installed properly and attempting to Un-install updates" and then restart again and again.

After some search, I found the solution that I need to start my Windows in Safe Mode to uninstall the recent updates. When I attempt to uninstall the updates it shows me message "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were uninstalled successfully" I attempted the same in Safe Mode with Networking and Without Networking.  An earlier reply will be highly appreciated.

Hello Zahid,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are unable to uninstall update(s). I will be happy to assist you with your query. However, let me ask you;

  1. Which update(s) are you trying to uninstall and why?
  2. The update(s) that you are trying to uninstall, is it causing any issue?
  3. Is your computer connected to a domain network?
  4. Why are you trying to uninstall an update?
  5. Are you able to uninstall any other program?

There can be various reasons why you are unable to uninstall an update. Your computer might be connected to a network where updates are managed by Group Policy. These network-wide settings can prevent you from removing an update. In other cases, you might not be able to remove an update because it applies to a security-related area of the operating system. If you think an update that you can't remove is causing problems, contact your system administrator or your organization's technical support.

If your computer is not connected to a domain, you can try the methods below and check.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run the Windows update troubleshooter and check if it helps.

a)    Press the ‘Windows Key+ W key on the keyboard.
b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.
c)    Select
Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Windows Update and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2: Let’s check if any other application or program is causing this issue. I would suggest you to boot the computer into clean boot state and check for the reasons behind this issue. A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 3: If issue persists run the SFC scan. System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) scans for missing or corrupted system files and repairs them.

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search. Type Command Prompt in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.
