Windows 8.1 desktop changed to look like Windows 10

Yesterday my Windows 8.1 desktop changed to the Windows 10 look. System info still says Windows 8.1 is running.

I am worried that Windows 10 is installing since the date format is different from Windows 8.1 and my Cumulus weather data may be lost.

Is this a normal update change of desktop for Windows 8.1?

Hi,

The 8.1 desktop does not change.

Post a screenshot of it.

Cheers.

The Taskbar should be along the bottom of the screen.

You must have moved it to the side for whatever reason.

You will see the difference between 8.1 and 10 in these Google links.

Thanks yes but I was not saying the Windows 8.1 date format was wrong.

It is confusing and surprising, but note at the top of that Windows 10 "look-alike" desktop: the Cumulus icon. Cumulus runs very well on that 8.1 machine, unlike on Windows 10 for which people have had to modify the date format of Windows 10.

I do not wish to modify the Windows 10 date format since I may risk losing weather history.

I am not asking currently about fixing the date format problem between Windows 10 and Cumulus.  What I am asking about currently is how the Windows 8.1 computer now displays a Windows 10 look-alike desktop.
