Hi Algernon,
- How many user account are you using on the computer?
Check if caps lock is on or off, make sure the internet connection is fine. I would suggest you to use On-screen keyboard and try logging into your Microsoft account and check if it helps. Enter the old password to login to Windows account, follow these steps.
- On login screen click Ease of access button on bottom left corner of the screen.
- Click on On-Screen keyboard (OSK).
- Try entering the password using OSK and check.

Hi,
I would suggest you to perform system restore and check if it helps:
If you are not able to boot to the desktop. I would suggest you to boot to recovery mode and perform System restore.
Follow these steps and check if it helps:
- Boot into the Recovery mode using Windows 8 recovery/installation disc.
- Once selecting your language, time and keyboard settings, click Next to load the next window, then click on the Repair your computer link on the bottom left corner of the window.
- You should then be presented with a Choose an Option screen, with Troubleshoot as an option to select.
- In the Troubleshoot screen, select Advanced options.
- Select System Restore from the Advanced options screen and follow the instruction.
System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently installed apps and drivers.
