Windows 8.1 System hangs when open a .zip file extension

My system hangs to no response (the system is still ON, cursor slowly moves but nothing else happens for as long as I leave and wait, cannot even bring up the task manager) when I open any .zip file

I had a winrar utility installed which i have removed.

Steps to reproduction;

1. Open any valid .zip file. File shows up well.

2. Copy the files in there and save them to another location.

3. Files are copied but just after that the system hangs

Then I am forced to Hard boot the system.

After which I get a choose your layout screen.

Really bugged with this. I've loved my windows much till now.

Thanks for your help in advance.

really need help - urgently

LMK if I can do any diagnosis etc.

Hi,

Thank you for replying with the status of the issue, sorry for delay in response.

Please let me know when was the last time .zip files were opening fine without the computer hanging up

I would suggest you to perform a system restore to an earlier point when the issue was not present.

Note: When you use System restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.

To do this, there must be a System Restore point at which the logon was successful.

You may refer to the below links for assistance on performing a system restore –
