Windows 8.1 freezes when Automatic Maintenance starts

Hi All,

I have a Sony VAIO SVT1213 Model. I have managed to make a clean install on my laptop since the update from the windows store did not work for me as it stops/freezes while updating.

After clean install my Windows 8.1 ran well a few days. Soon I have encountered an issue that my Windows 8.1 freezes everytime when the Automatic Maintenance starts. I could only move mouse but everything else is unresponsive. It shows no reaction on my command at all. This problem did not appears under my previous Windows 8.

I have searched in this forum and found out that this issue does exist on Windows 8 too.

It could help after I run this command:

“dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth”

But after the monthly microsoft update, this problem occurs again.

How can I get this problem solved permanently? Please help.

Answer

Think I found something after looking through the Task Scheduler.

  1. GO to the start menu, type Schedule Tasks
  2. When it opens, on the left expand Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\TaskScheduler
  3. On the Right look for Idle Maintenance
  4. Right Click it and choose Disable if you truly are bothered by it (I almost did this)
  5. You can also select properties when you right click, then click the Conditions Tab
  6. Change the Start Task only if the Computer is Idle time to 30 minutes or 1 hour.  Mine was on 10 minutes originally.

Hope this helps.
