After installing Windows 8.1, problems, problems. And more problems.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 64 bits with CORE i7 and just updated my operating system to Windows 8.1 today. Here are the problems that have be stuck with me for the entire day:

My touchpad scrolling no longer works. It's Synaptics. Whatever solution that worked for other people did not work for me, some of them I didn't even have the same options

There is no sound, either playing aloud or from earphones

My iTunes doesn't work. Despite the no sound problem, the progress bar bar doesn't even move.

I am yet to discover more problems (yeah for me!) on my laptop after the update. By the way, are these problems just here because most programs aren't compatible with Windows 8.1 yet?

Hi Penny,

The issue with the touchpad might happen due to incompatibility issues for the touchpad driver. If you have not installed the latest driver for Windows 8.1, you might find such scenarios while using the touchpad.

1) What is the Model of the Lenovo Yoga laptop?

2) Did you download the latest touchpad driver by referring to the Lenovo website? Are they available for Windows 8.1?

If they are not for Windows 8.1, then, install the latest available driver in Windows compatibility and see if it works. Follow the methods:

Method 1:

Follow the steps to update the driver using the previous version of drivers for the touchpad:

a) Press Windows and X key together and select Device Manager.

b) Locate the Mice and other pointing devices/Touchpad device icon. Right click on the driver icon.

c) Select Update driver software.

c) Select “Browse my computer for a driver software”.

d) Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.

e) Select the Touchpad driver from the list of the drivers according your device model and installed.

f) If this does not work, follow the steps from ‘a’ to ‘c’ and select “Search automatically for the updated driver”.

Check if this fixes the issue. If not, proceed to the next method.

Method 2:

Refer to the link and enter the name of the laptop inside the search box to find the latest available drivers for the laptop:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/default.page?#

If you have latest drivers for Windows 8.1, you can download the latest versions, uninstall the current versions and then install the latest versions. Otherwise, download the latest drivers and proceed further.

If they are not available for Windows 8.1, follow the steps

Note: Before uninstalling the touchpad driver currently installed, please make sure that you have downloaded the latest driver for the touchpad device.

a)            Press Windows and X key on your desktop and click on Device Manager.

b)            Expand ‘Mouse and other pointing device’.

c)            Locate the Touchpad driver.

d)            Right-click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

e)            Locate the folder which contains the setup file for the latest driver that you have downloaded.

f)             Right click on the setup file and click on Properties.

g)            Go to compatibility tab and check the box which states “Run the program in compatibility mode for”.

h)            Select Windows form the drop down list.(The previous version on which the touchpad worked or the version for which the drivers are available)

i)             Click on OK.

j)             Follow the onscreen instruction to install the driver in compatibility mode.
