"The DNS server isn't responding"

Hello,

I have an Acer R7 touchscreen laptop with Windows 8.1.  3 weeks ago, I could not connect to the internet on this laptop though it says "limited".  Neither IE nor Chrome work.  I tried all of the suggestions online including resetting the router, flushing the DNS, trying to access the Google DNS, turning off my firewall, and others to no avail.  The actual error reads, "The DNS server isn't responding" "Detected" and has a yeild sign with an exclamation mark.  I have tried updating the Broadcom driver.  The problem appears to be only on my network.  I have ATT Uverse and they say my service is good and want me to pay for tech support, which I wont from them.  I find it odd that if I take my computer to another network, it works flawlessly.  When this first happened and I could not fix it, I restored my computer to a save point seven days prior and it worked.  Then I went on vacation after three days into the restore point and when I came home it was not working again.  I am really frustrated because there is not one tech support out there that has been able to help.  Anyone have any other suggestions?  I have McAfee Total Protect and ran a Malwarebytes scan and both say my computer is clean.  My last thing to try is to restore the computer to factory default but would like to see what my options are before I do that.  Please, anyone?

Thanks,

Mike Trosien

Original Title

  • Press Windows Key + R. In the run window, type ncpa.cpl. This will open network connections
  • right click local area connection, then click properties
  • Select Internet protocol version(TCP/IPv4), then click properties
  • Select internet protocol ,select “use the following DNS server address”
  • change DNS server address to global DNS value given below
    Preferred 208.67.222.222

Alternate 208.67.220.220 (You can also use Google’s DNS address preferred 8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4)
  • Check if issue is fixed. Changing the Preferred and Alternate error usually fix most of the cases.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for responding.  I tried that and it did not work.  I still get the same error after trying both the Global and Google's.  This is driving me crazy. Would seem like a simple fix since the computer works on every other network beside mine.  If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mike Trosien
