Windows Explorer in Windows 8.1 will not recognize a Nexus phone

I recently acquired a Nexus 5 phone.  When connected via USB to my Acer laptop (Windows 8.1) it is recognized by Control Panel and also by the "Safely remove device" facility, but not by Windows Explorer so I can not access photos on the phone.  However everything works perfectly on my wife's old Dell laptop running Windows XP.  Can anyone help with this problem - thanks.

Answer

Hi,

I just fixed the connection problem. Just follow these steps:

  1. Connect Nexus to PC using USB
  2. Open Device Manager;
  3. View > Show hidden devices;
  4. Expand ACER Device and double-click on the first ADB interface icon that's connected (i.e. doesn't appear dim);
  5. In the Properties pop-up, Driver > Update Driver > Browse computer for software > Let me pick from a list...> select MTP interface

After selecting MTP as your interface, you should be able to access your Nexus folders and everything else.

Hope that helps!
