bluetooth keeps disabling after an update of the bluetooth driver

hi, i have a lenovo netbook, when i got it, its on windows 8 and so i updated it to 8.1. i don't know if there's any correlation with the error i got with the bluetooth driver.

first, i noticed that the bluetooth isnt showing on the pc settings, on this picture, its clearly here, but this is how i noticed its not where it was supposed to be. then i noticed the action center icon and that's when i realized that the bluetooth isnt working properly and it needs an update, so i followed the instruction and i did got to download an updated bluetooth program. i just have to restart the computer and its going to be fine. i did so and i can use the bluetooth again, the PROBLEM now is that if i TURN OFF the bluetooth, after a day or two i wont be able to see the bluetooth on the PC settings again, so what i did was to install the update of the bluetooth again.

So now, I CAN'T turn off the bluetooth without it unistalling itself every time. So basically my bluetooth is on all the time, its not much of a problem but still, i actually have a shortcut on the desktop for the bluetooth update so whenever the bluetooth is gone missing, i just install it again.. can someone help me please. Thank you.

Hi Kenneth,

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue:

-          What is the model number of the computer?

-          After upgrading to Windows 8.1, did you install all pending Windows Updates and update all device drivers accordingly?

This issue might occur due to several reasons like software or hardware driver incompatibility, missing updates, broken drivers etc.

Let us follow these methods and check if this helps:

Method 1.

This can happen if the Bluetooth device uses a Bluetooth 3.0 radio that is turned off by the manufacturer’s software.

If turning the Bluetooth device off causes your Bluetooth settings to disappear, follow these steps to re-enable your Bluetooth device:

Open “PC Settings”.

Select “Network”, and then “Airplane mode”.

If the Bluetooth device was previously paired, there should be an “Enable Bluetooth” switch. Slide it to on position.

Method 2.

The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which checks the hardware on the computer for any known issues and provides the details on how to fix them.

Plug in the device and follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

Click on “Hardware and Devices”.

Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.

Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Method 3.

Turn on the Bluetooth enabled device and then make it discoverable. Methods for making it discoverable can vary widely depending on the device. To learn how to make a Bluetooth enabled device discoverable, check the info that came with your device or go to the manufacturer’s website.

If your device has a wireless switch, make sure it’s turned on. The switch could be on the front, back, or side, and it could be small and unmarked. Check the info that came with your device to see if a picture shows where it’s located.

Method 4.

Usually after an update to a newer version some drivers or devices may not work as expected. This issue may occur as the computer may need the latest version of updates or drivers.

Drivers are updated occasionally. Windows can update them automatically, or you can install the updated drivers yourself. It's important for you to have confidence in the updated drivers you install. Windows notifies you if it detects a suspicious or unsafe driver you shouldn't install.

You may download the latest driver from the manufacturer website and install in Windows 8 compatibility mode to check if this helps. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Hi,

-          Were you able to follow other methods provided in the previous reply? If yes please reply with the status of the issue.

Error 43 means that one of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner. There might be some incompatibility between the driver and the hardware device.

You may uninstall the driver, restart the computer and install the driver in latest driver downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. Further, you may also try to manually install the driver in compatibility mode.

Thank you.

hi, thank you for responding to this thread.

method no.1 isnt really applicable because if the bluetooth isnt disabled, i can do that turning off and on on the NETWORK but if it is disabled, i dont find it anywhere.

method 3 isnt applicable either because this notebook doesnt have any external switch, i was able to turn it on and off on the PC SETTINGS before until the "disappearing act" of the bluetooth.

im still trying to figure out what will help on the method 4.

this is what i got when i check the WINDOWS UPDATE i clicked on the VIEW UPDATE HISTORY this is what i saw, the last time the bluetooth was updated.

now i clicked on the view details, i saw the bluetooth atheros that's on the OPTIONAL part along with the graphic driver and the audio, so i check the check box of the BLUETOOTH upon doing that automatic installing occurred. I cancelled it, thinking i should have continued it, i RESTART the computer and so the update happen, "installing update 1 of 1" i assume this is the bluetooth.. anyhow, an ERROR showed up, and what was written was: driver_power_state_failure. I assume this is really the bluetooth that it was updating and again an ERROR happened.

after that error, the bluetooth that was supposed to be on this OPTIONAL along with the audio and graphics is now gone missing.

upon viewing the UPDATE HISTORY this is what i got now:

it failed to install, so assumed that the bluetooth still has the same error after installing update.
