Bluetooth device connects for a few seconds and gets disconnected

My PC (HP Pavilion Slimline S5-1420D with Win 8.1) managed to pair with my bluetooth device (a JBL Flip speaker).  However, it got disconnected after a few seconds and I couldn't get it to re-connect.  I tried connecting my handphone to the PC and it experienced the same issue (paired successfully but got disconnected after a few seconds).

This appears to be an issue with Win 8.1: (1) the same devices (JBL Flip and blackberry handphone) failed to connect with with an Acer laptop with Win 8.1 - same issue: successful initial pairing but the connection drops after a few seconds; (2) the same devices would connect to a Win 7 laptop with no issue; and (3) the same JBL Flip also connects with other mobile phones (blackberry and iPhone) with no issues.

Can anybody help?

Hi,

Many thanks again.

When I tried to update the chipset driver, it gave an error message "Your system does not meet the minimum requirement for this update.  Update has been cancelled. (9996)

I have the same problem as subject. I'm using 3 devices, my desktop (Asus motherboard DIY), tab (Asus 100) and mobile (950XL), all running win 10 and wanted to link the three all by Bluetooth. I tried all the appended advice and didn't work at all.

Not sure why this simple wireless connection make life so difficult?

surprisingly to see no further follow up on this problem since 2014!

problem resolved by following setup:

my desktop:

1. click the Bluetooth icon at the task bar

2. at the pop up window, click "Join a Personal Area Network"

3. highlight "Phone950XL"

4. at the tab, select connect using drop down "Access point"

5. do the same for my tab.

6. now both my desktop and tab are connected to my 950XL successfully.

7. I later found this method is using my mobile 950XL hot spot for the connections.

8. the connection will be disconnected after 950XL out of range and it doesn't reconnect again automatically.

9. my mobile 950XL works perfectly okay with my car Bluetooth (don't understand)

Please note that my desktop and tab can't connect either both 950XL and each other at the same time.

after trials on file transfer and found following:

a. file couldn't transfer from my 950XL to neither desktop nor tab

b. file could transfer from either my desktop or tab to 950XL

c. desktop and tab using "direct connection" both are completely failed.
