Why can't I play games like Minecraft in 8.1?

When I start up minecraft, then click play, I get a black box, then th game pops up. When I click on something, it disappears. If I let it do nothing but start up, it closes automatically. What is the make and model of the computer?

 

I would suggest you to update the display drivers by downloading it from the manufacturer’s website.

You may also follow these steps to update the drivers on the computer and check if the issue persists:

a.     Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)

b.    Enter “Device manger” without quotes in the search box.

c.     Tap on Device manager.

d.    Right click on the device and click on Update driver software.

What is the model number of the Dell Inspiron computer?

 

Follow these steps to update the display drivers:

a.     Press Windows key + R on the keyboard.

b.    Type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes and press Enter.

c.     Expand Display adapters.

d.    Right click on the graphics card and click on Update driver software.

Hi,

 

Are you referring to Minceraft or Minecraft classic version?

 

It seems that Minecraft Classic version is not compatible with Windows 8.1 operating system. You may try to install it in compatibility mode:

a. Right click on setup file.

b. Click on Properties.

c. Click on Compatibility tab.

d. Put a check mark on Run this program in compatibility mode for.

e. Select the operating system to which the driver is available.

f. Put a check mark on Run this program as an administrator under Privilege Level.

I followed your instruction and mine says it's up to date. However in my Vaio update there is an update for my Radeon HD 7500M. I tried to install it but I cant because it says cannot update because windows update is running or scheduled to be performed in 60 mins. 

I checked the windows update on the right side bar indeed there is an update that is stuck/ problem. I've tried to cancel it and restart my laptop for several times but it is still there (win update). I guess this was the same update that failed the day before (although I've left my laptop on with this update running for a whole day!).
