I've noticed that when viewing remote folders over the network, the 'size on disk' in the Folder Properties / General tab is reported incorrectly under the following conditions:
* When I'm using my Win8.1 based PC.
* Viewing a folder hosted by a Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 R2 Server.
* The folder has NTFS compression enabled.
For example, here is a folder viewed from my PC with the incorrect 'size on disk':
Here is the same folder's properties displayed from a Windows 2003 computer, with the correct 'size on disk':
This looks like it may be a bug in Windows 8.1. Anyone else noticed this ? Any comments from Microsoft would be particularly welcome. Here are the details:
My PC: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (with latest updates).
Remote servers hosting affected folders: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and Windows Server 2003 x86.
I tried it from a Windows 7 PC and it's not happening from it. Will post to this other forum too. In the meantime, if it's not too much trouble could this be investigated by Microsoft, or will you just be passing me on to another forum ?
Edit: Just posted the same problem here, as requested:
