Windows 8.1 Mail app and Exchange Autodiscover

An organization I'm currently supporting has exchange 2010 and autodiscover setup. I've used nslookup to verify autodiscover settings and everything seems ok. When I launch the Windows 8.1 Mail metro app, autodiscover is not working. I have to enter all the required fields to get email working.

Is this anything additionally for Windows Mail autodiscover to work that is different from autodiscover for the Outlook client that needs to be in place?

Is it a requirement for Exchange Active sync to be enabled? I've been told they are using a 3rd party tool, possibly Sophos for Active Sync Policies,
