Want to watch TV on computer connected through HDMI cable

Original Title: screenConnected Samsumg TV to wireless PC using Samsung Smartview

The Samsung software called Smartview allows me to watch videos or view photos that are stored on my PC on my new smart TV.

It also allows me to access my Samsung TV remote control and operate my TV.

It is supposed to allow me to see TV programs on my PC......but this part does not work.  I get a message that says: Your TV's current status does not support screen sharing (i.e. HDMI is not supported for Windows).

My PC is wireless.  I am running 8.1. We are using HDMI cabling to connect the TV to our Direct TV box.

Does this make sense to anyone? Is there a solution that would allow me to see TV screens on my laptop?

Thanks in advance for any help I might get!

Hello Cdarizona,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

As per the description, I understand that you want to watch TV screen connected through HDMI cable on your computer screen. It gives error message "Your TV's current status does not support screen sharing" while connecting.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

  1. Do you have necessary hardware attached for watching TV on your computer?
  2. Do you have Windows Media Center installed on your computer?

With your Windows 8.1 computer you can project your computer screen on TV through wireless display adapter or HDMI cable, but I am not sure about reversing this order to watch TV on your computer screen through HDMI cable. I would suggest you to refer your computer documentation if that facilitates you the reverse screen projection, or contact the TV manufacturer for proper setup to avail this facility on your computer.

However, if you have Windows Media Center installed and have necessary hardware attached to the computer, you can watch, play, rewind live or recorded TV programs.
