Trouble logging into my PC

I am having issues logging in to my windows 8.1 laptop. I usually login with a pin, but it is suddenly asking for the password, which I have forgotten. So I login to my microsoft account with another device online and changed the password. But the PC is still not accepting the new password. It kept saying I am offline and to login with the last password I used on the device. I have shutdown and restarted, checked the wifi connection and it seem fine, I dont know what else to do. Any help will be appreciated.

If you've forgotten your Windows password, there are several ways to retrieve or reset it:

  • If your PC is on a domain, your system administrator must reset your password.

  • If you're using a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. For more info, go to the Reset your password webpage.

  • If you're using a local account, use your password hint as a reminder.

If you've tried these suggestions and still can't sign in:

  • If you have Windows 8.1, you'll need to reinstall Windows.

  • If you have Windows RT 8.1, you'll need to contact your PC manufacturer.

The same thing is happening for me as well. I can reset my Microsoft Live account password a thousand times but it doesn't transfer to my laptop! I dont want to lose all of my photos! Unfortunately that account is the only  one with ANY admin rights.  I am not even able to install windows updates or even refresh it :\

Yes. I did read and have tried over and over. The trouble isn't with my Microsoft account at all. I can get in there nd change the password a thousand times but it doesn't transfer to my login on my laptop. I can only log on with one of my guest sign ons. Unfortunately the only admin account on it is mine. I dont want to delete all of my photos that are on there. They are the only ones that i have. There has to be a way to make mu laptop synch with the web! I can't possibly be the only one with this problem. Or can I? Please help!

1. You start your own thread here; these are not chat rooms.

2. And there is no other advice from Microsoft.

3. A word of advice:

You should always have your data backed up to at least two external media destinations (external hard drive, DVDs, flash drive) in case of system file corruption and/or hard drive failure

One other thing you do not realize about here.

Every time someone posts here, everyone one who is subscribed to this thread receives an email with a notification about it.

Which means that the original poster and  posters trying to help them in this thread are receiving emails about other peoples problems that are not their concern.

That is why the original poster's problem is dealt with on its own with posters only replying to them.

I suggest that you read the Code of Conduct:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/page/faq#faqCodeConduct

Please do:

  • Be polite and respectful in your posts, and in your replies to other people.
  • Keep conversation threads on track. It's okay to disagree with another user's post, but don't take the thread off track to do so.
  • Always address your comments to the person who asked the initial question, not the other posters.
