How to pin OneDrive desktop to taskbar

Hi All,

I don't know if this is something that has been covered, but I've had OneDrive as a desktop folder pinned to my taskbar for a while.  To be honest I don't remember if this was something I read about or stumbled upon, but I just had the drama of figuring it out again for another small tablet (vivotab note 8).

So, here's my task bar... some of it.

I went to Skydrive (OneDrive in my users folder, path : C:\Users\Tom\SkyDrive

I went to my desktop, created a shortcut with this path.

However! Instead of just OneDrive as a name, I named it ' OneDrive - Shortcut '.  (For some reason, the - Shortcut bit made a difference to right clicking on the start screen.)

I then pinned this to start (the start screen).

From there, I was able to right click the icon on the start screen and pin it to the taskbar.

Hopefully this helps a few with this one.  Having OneDrive as a desktop shortcut is one I use all the time.

Attention Tom Murray88

I have repeated your steps several times as well as some other ways to put OneDrive on the task bar. I am using windows 7. nothing seems to work :( Do you have the ability to connect to my computer and do it?

Hi Gene,

I've had a look at my Windows 7 laptop and have not been able to find a way to have the OneDrive icon down on the taskbar either.  I've been able to create a OneDrive cloud icon shortcut on the desktop, but I've found that trying to pin it to the desktop only results in a file explorer icon - however if you right click the icon, you can pin OneDrive in the menu.

I'm curious to see if there is a way to do this, or alternatively, if you use OneDrive and don't really bother with file explorer, if there is any way to just change the icon and have it go directly to your OneDrive folder.

Hi Tom,

I did eventually find a way to do it. I went to properties on the shortcut and added “explorer “ to the beginning of the target line, leaving a space between explorer and the original comamd. Then clicked change icon, ok. After that I was able to drag the one drive icon on to the task bar. This worked with my desktop, windows 7 and on my laptop windows 10

Thanks for getting back to me

Gene

Thanks Tom!

I've just had to do a fresh install of Win 10 and everything else! I was trying to figure out a way of adding OneDrive to the taskbar. Bizarre that it can't be done from a shortcut on the desktop, so your post was extremely helpful! Thank you! :)
