Windows 8 Xbox Music app crashes while trying to access network share files on Windows Home Server

Original title: Xbox Music app crashes after adding a network location to my music library

I have a WHS v1.0.  I have my music collection saved at \\hpserver\music.  I added this network location to my Music Library via Windows Explorer.  I opened Xbox Music app and saw all my music start populating in the app.  I navigated around a little but then the app started crashing.  It now crashes every time I open the app, about 5 seconds in.

It seems like it may be having issues analyzing all of the network location music.  I have 5,571 files (including playlists) so probably around 5000 songs.  Is there a limitation in Xbox Music app on number of songs to add in?  I wonder if it may be an issue loading playlists.

I hope these apps use Watson reports so it is already getting reported.

Oh, and this is on Windows 8 RTM.

Hi,

How so? WHS isn't crashing. The Xbox Music app is. It is just a simple network share. I disagree and will leave the question posted here.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The files are in Home Server.

If the files are corrupted or if there is any issue accessing the server, the Xbox application would not be able to access the files.

Hence, the Home server forum is the best place to get assistance.

Thanks but the Home Server is not the crashing application here.  The mp3s could be all sorts of corrupt and the Xbox Music application SHOULD NOT crash.  The WHS share is a simple network share, added to Windows 8 Music folder.  I do see the songs listed in the Xbox Music app so it doesn't appear to be an access issue (unless a few files have their own perms).  I guess this isn't the "RTM" Xbox Music app since I keep seeing news about the next release coming October 26th.  I will wait and see what happens with that new version.

Well it looks like someone changed the original title of the post from Xbox Music app to Xbox application.  No idea why they would do that.  The Xbox 360 is not in this whole scenario.  I am using Windows 8 RTM - Music App.  I assumed it was called Xbox Music since that is what loads up on the screen but I have a feeling the final Xbox Music app will be released October 26th.
