windows media center cannot start the streaming service because it is missing the dependent "HTTP Service" how can i fix this?

It has been 1 day since my install of windows 8 and this is the only problem we're having. It is a big problem though as this pc is mainly for streaming media.

Hi,

1.       Were you able to start streaming in Windows Media Center earlier?

2.       Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to run System File Checker (SFC) tool scan and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to run System File Checker scan:

a.       Press Windows + X key and click Command Prompt (Admin).

b.      Type the command: sfc /scannow and press Enter.

c.       Restart the computer and check.

Also try restarting the Streaming service in the Services and check.

a.       Press Windows key + X key and click on Computer Management.

b.      Double click on Service and Applications.

c.       Click on Services and search for the streaming service.

d.      Right click the Streaming service and click Restart and check.

Hope the information is helpful.

1. Yes, I just upgraded to the windows 8 and it broke media streaming and will not recognize my libraries in the metro apps.

2. see 1

Did everything that was available to me without access to reinstalling the http service that was deleted by the windows 8 upgrade.

Even though it's not listed, HTTP Service is automatic and probably running.  There are a number of other services, such as Print Spooler, which also depend on the service, and those should be running on your machine.  They were on mine anyway.

Windows Media Streaming Service also depends on the Windows Search service, but it doesn't list it as a dependency if Windows Search is not installed (which isn't it by default on Windows 8 Release Preview).  Try the following steps:

1. Press Windows key + X key and click on Control Panel.

2. Click on Programs and Features.

3. In the left sidebar, click on Turn Windows features on or off

4. Ensure the box next to Windows Search is checked.

5. Click OK.

6. When prompted, restart the machine.

This should get you past the 1075 error and allow the streaming service to run, and other machine should be able to see and connect to your Windows 8 machine.  Whether they can actually see the files in your library is another matter. ;)  I'm still getting "No albums/artists/videos found" on my Xbox 360, but the connection test is fine.

Tried all of that. nothing works.

I continue to get error 1068

There is a work around that works from here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistanetworking/thread/02cd004f-2df5-4b9c-ab12-f5bbc0051aa2/

but the folders and media are just a pile of unorganized mess on my media devices.(ps3's, roku, dash, droid tablets)

Having about 2Tb of media you can see why this is a bit of a problem.

I had already enabled search so I could add the windows media center extender service, which doesn't work with my ps3's so i would definitely like a "real" fix for this.

please help.
