How can I force Windows 8 to install non digitally signed drivers for hardware items?

I am trying to install my TrackIR 5 device but Windows 8 refuses to install the supplied drivers.

The program installs and runs but the hardware won't work because the drivers won't install.

This device is installed and working perfectly on my Windows 7 64 Bit computer.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

All other versions of Windows will allow you to install unsigned drivers for hardware.

WHY won't Windows 8? There should be a work around for this.

How does Microsoft expect consumers to test all functions and compatibility when it blocks third party drivers?.

At least my Windows 7 Edition will give me the option to install.

This looks like a Apple type ploy to lock down operating systems.

Win8 enforces driver signatures by default. If you have a Win7 driver that worked OK, I suggest the following to disable driver signature enforcement:

From the Metro or Desktop

Bring up Charms by mouseing over to the right of the screen

Go to Settings

More PC Settings

General

Advanced Startup > Restart Now

Trouble shoot

Advanced options

Windows startup options

Restart

Click on 'Disable driver signature enforcement

Reboot

Install the relevant driver, allowing the non signed driver to install.

This has worked OK for me installing various old printer drivers. Just make sure you know the provenance of the driver being installed, as always.

Hello,

there is also a function that Windows will ask you if you want to install a unsigned driver without changing all the System options like UAC and making all the trouble.

Follow this steps.

 - Open System and Security

 - Select System

 - on the right side select Advanced System Settings - if you work as limited User you have to provide your Password because of UAC

 - on top select Hardware

 - then you se a field with Device Installations Settings, select it.

 - Select -  No, let me choose......

Next time you install a driver what is not certified for Windows 8 you get a selection field with "install anyway".

This should cover your needs.

greetings.

BTW - it is exactly the same way in Windows 7 :-)
