Windows 10 XBox app fails to start

Hi,

I got my free Windows 10 upgrade ysterday and it installed with no errors or issues. Everything works fine, all devices have their drivers installed, I did not install any additional driver or application since I upgraded yesterday. The issue is with the new Xbox app, when I try to run it it pops up for a second and crashes. I found the following error in Windows event viewer:

Log Name:      Application

</Event>

All other applications desktop and modern style work fine except for Xbox.

I then went and opened the store to see if there is any update available for it and indeed there was an update yet it failed to install. There is a message that says (Try that again) and a see details link next to it. Viewing the details shows the following message:

Try that again

Something went wrong

The error code is 0x80073B0F, in case you need it.

Can someone tell me how to fix this.

PS, sorry if this is in the wrong category, I am trying to post the question under Windows/Apps on Windows 10/Other Apps but the system wont let me do that

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand your inconvenience. We will assist you with it.

Follow the methods provided below.

Method 1: Disable Antivirus software

Disable the Antivirus software temporarily and check if it helps.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect the computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time the antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

After disabling the Antivirus, try to install the Xbox update and check.

If the issue still persist, follow method 2.

Method 2: Reset the Windows Store cache.

Follow the steps to reset the Windows Store cache

  1. Press Windows Key + R key.

  2. Type wsreset.exe and press Enter Key.

Your Windows Store cache will be reset. Check if the is resolved.

Unfortunately this did not work, I disabled Windows Defender which is the only Anti Virus software installed on my computer. I also tried the wsreset method and it did not do a thing. I actually tried wsreset a couple of times and I noticed something weird. Every time I did a wsreset, it opens the App Store and then I search for Xbox and try to download it. Each time it gives me a different download size, the first time I did it the store reported that the download is 48 MB, the second time it reported it as 96 MB, the third time it was 59 MB. And each time it reaches the install phase and then report the same error:

Try that again

Something went wrong

The error code is 0x80073B0F, in case you need it.

Didn't fix my issue either.

Splash screen shows than closes, the app never starts.

Tried uninstalling it but the button is greyed out as is the move button.

The store has a 48mb download but keep getting the following message:

Try that again

Something went wrong

The error code is 0x80073B0F

Event log is exactly the same as TheDahaka7 mentioned at the start of this thread.

I checked dxdiag and it reports that my directx version is 10.1, does this relate to the issue?

I tried installing some apps from the store today and all went well, yet the xbox app is still pending update with the Try that again message still showing

I followed the steps above then.

1. Uninstalled Xbox One and Xbox 360 smart glass apps.

2. Restarted my PC which, got the Xbox app to allow me to select login options. (progress)

3. Selected either add a new account or choose a different account (can't remember the exact text)

4. Logged in with the email linked to my xbox live account.

This solved my issue.

Did not work for me, I did a wsreset, uninstalled both smart glass apps, restarted my PC ( a couple of times) and the Xbox app still wont launch nor will it update from the Windows Store.

Man its driving me nuts, everything is working brilliantly, I have no issues with anything except this damn app which preventing me from enjoying my new OS :(

I fixed this in three ways.

Create a new profile and log in using that.

Roll back to Windows 7 then upgrade again.

The best option overall was to reset Windows 10. (Please note, resetting windows 10 disables the "Roll back to Windows 7" option. It does tell you, that will happen but just an additional word of caution.

Everything now works almost perfectly, my internal Bluetooth adapter isn't working now but that's an easy fix.

BLUETOOTH ADAPTER Widcomm Broadcom Bluetooth Software

Adapter now installed and everything is working perfectly.

Finally I have found a solution and now XBOX and all other apps work fine.

I asked the same question on superusr and someone gave me this solution so I cannot take credit for it.

Open Windows PowerShell as an administrator and run the following:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

This takes sometime to process but once its done I ran the app and it opened with no issues, I then went ahead and updated it and the update took seconds to complete.

All other apps are working just fine.

This will reset all your store app settings so you will need to sign in and reconfigure apps once the command finishes
