Minecraft switching from Java: Edition to Windows 10 Edition

I've done a lot of reading on Minecraft's official page, and I've found that those who have purchased the Minecraft Java: Edition before October 19th, 2018 are "entitled to a free copy of Minecraft for Windows 10". My dad purchased the Java: edition for me as a Christmas gift way back in 2015. I've been looking all over the place but I cant figure out how to get the Windows 10 edition without paying full price. I was wondering how to do that?

Also a side question, When I get this new version is it possible to transfer the single player worlds I already have after my years of playing over or will they be lost?

Thank you so much
