GTA 3 (PC) won't play on my brand new windows 10! Somebody fix this! I've tried all the compatability settings. Nada. I'm old. I like my old games. :-(

Garner's link to the DirectX Web Installer is not longer viable. The link has been directed to the
Windows 10 download page. Reasons for this are unknown, and unfathomable to those outside the
Monopoly$oft inner circle.
Currently the only option for addressing DX issues is to download the full installer below.
The DirectX runtime installer overwrites all DX files, which has the added benefit of replacing any corrupt
This installer goes back to June 2010, but that is when the last of the DX 9, 10 and 11 files were released.

- I don't have GTA3, but notice the 'silent' patch covers later releases of the game, and GTA-VC, GTA-SA
and GTA4 all run well on Win10 without this patch. The patch may get the game running, but -
I believe that GTA3 is one of many games that are being stopped from launching by the dictatorial
Win10's DRM blocking. This only affects retail disk versions of games.
If so, a noCD fix/hack (which may be included in the 'silent' mod) would be the only way to get a
retail disk version of the game running.

I had problems trying to install GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas but I found a fix.
Download and install DirectX:
Along with this, also try running them in compatibility mode as well as an administrator.
Also try downloading DirectPlay if prompted.
