Unable to change the lock screen background under personalize in change PC settings.

Original title: Cannot Personalize Lock screen.

I just installed windows 8 Pro RTM and i am unable to change the lock screen background under personalize in change PC settings. Its greyed out and can't be clicked on. Can anyone help ??? I have tried the gpedit thing but still does not seem to work. Please help.

Hi Dominic Singh,

1. Where did you download windows 8 Pro RTM from?

2. Is your system on a domain?

You may check in System properties and see if the Windows is activated.

If it is not activated then the PC settings and other options will be grayed out.

If Windows 8 Pro RTM is not activated, then activate the same and check if it helps.

a. Press Windows Key +Q, type Computer.

b. Right-click on Computer and Select Properties.

c. Select View details in Windows Activation from Windows Activation option.

d. Select Activate.

Hi DominicSingh,

Thank you replying.

Since the issue persists, it would be grateful if you could reply to these questions to assist you further with the issue.

1. Are you using an Administrator account to log in?

2. Is it a Local or Microsoft account?

Let’s try changing the User account and check if it helps. If you are using a Local account, try using a Microsoft account or vice versa.

a. Move the mouse to bottom left corner and right-click on start and select ‘Control panel’.

b. Select ‘User account’.

c. Click on User accounts and select ‘Manage the account’.

d. Select a different Administrator account (Local or Microsoft) and check for the issue.

If you need further assistance, please reply and we will be happy to help you.

I think this might solve the problem:

Try going to the desktop==> Windows key+R==> The run window should appear. Put in gpedit.msc

Go down the path: Computer Configuration==> Administrative Templates==>Control Panel==> Personalization==> Do not display lock screen. Double Click on Do not Display lock screen: A window should appear giving you three options at the top right corner: Not Configured, Enabled, Disabled. Click not configured.

Hope this helps...
