FREE WINDOWS 10 DVD PLAYER

I received a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.  Microsoft installed new updates yesterday but I still do not have a free DVD player.  When we we get this?

A DVD player from Microsoft is now available as a separate download, but it's pretty basic. Better DVD playing will be added to the Groove app in the anticipated 'Redstone' update coming in Q1 2016.

But you don't have to wait: Download the very popular VLC Media Player, which plays DVDs and just about anything else you throw at it.

How do you download the Windows 10 DVD player. Your tech folks have posted at least 3 respoces to this question without answering it .

Most of us did a clean install and it would be great if those that had Media Center could still get the app by putting our activation number in.....when you just upgrade it leaves some partitions from Windows 8 or Windows 7 depending on what system you upgraded, but from what I have read many dd as I did, we upgraded then did a clean install, I thought the current app which is loaded when you install 10 was the one but tonight I found out that was not the case.......Please come up with a way we can still get the app for playing DVD's using our Media Center activation code. Its really a shame that everything has basically gone subscription and it dont make sense for people like myself who may watch a few DVD movies every few months to pay for some DVD Software or even the monthly subscription fee...windows 10 may be free for people who had Windows 8...8.1 and Windows 7 but in the long run its really not free when you look at what we traded off for the operating system, I am not trying to complain, I like windows 10 and don't even mind putting up with commercials when playing Microsoft and Xbox games. Just a simple no frills DVD player...I have tried a few of the free DVD apps and they dont work...one that did kept wanting me to enter my code to unlock my Microsoft Wallet....not a good idea.....

This is less than helpful.  Upgrading to Windows 10 resulted in my PowerDVD 12 not working.  MS should make their DVD player free for all Windows 10 users since MS is pushing so hard for people to go to it.  I just wasted 2 hours with MS tech support not being able to give me a straight answer about how to get the dvd player or why they aren't providing it for free.

My question to Microsoft.  Is the FREE download for the dvd player still available?  Stop playing around with a definite answer.  Either it's available or not.  I have the update for Windows 10 and not I can't play DVD or download programs. Nothing seems to be easy to get an answer as to whether it is available.  I keep getting directed to the $14.99 purchase. Starting to regret updating to 10.

You won't get any kind of official answer from Microsoft here.  If you upgraded from a version of Windows that had Windows Media Center installed (not Windows Media Player), it should have been included in the updates that were installed during the upgrade, or shortly thereafter.  If you didn't have Media Center, you weren't eligible for the offer.  If you did have Media Center and haven't gotten the DVD player yet, you're probably not going to get it.  MS covered their tracks, or tried to, by stipulating that the offer was available for a limited time without specifying the limit.  Furthermore, if you did get the DVD player app during or after the upgrade and subsequently do a clean installation of Windows 10, the app will be gone and you won't be able to get it back.
