Calculator app not working on Windows 10

ptu asked on

I couldn't find an answer at the community, please help if you could, thank you in advance!

My problem is this:

After updated windows 10 couple days ago, I found there're some problems, so I recovered it back to safety, I don't remember what I did, the only thing I could remember was I run recovery, then everything goes back to earlier stage I guess, it did fix my problems, but after that, I tried to open my calculator I used to use from my start menu, I saw the calculator appeared on the desktop for a flash of a second, then it disappeared into the air, I guess it does opened but goes to somewhere maybe out of the screen visible area or it simply goes to Mars for a vacation, is there a way to get it back within the screen so I can use it.

Great idea comes from great people at Microsoft community, appreciated!

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are unable to launch the Calculator app on Windows 10. I will certainly help you.

In order to assist you better, please reply to the following questions.

1. Does this issue is specific to Calculator app or all Windows apps?

2. Do you receive any error message when the app crashes?

You need at least 1024 X 768 screen resolution for modern apps to work. The Windows apps will not work in screen resolution less than 1024 X 768. To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768. Make sure that the screen resolution meets these requirements. You can check this by:

1. Right-click the mouse from the desktop interface and select Display Settings >Display > Advanced display

    settings.
2. Check the screen resolution shown there. It should be at least 1024 X 768.

Also, make sure the User Account Control (UAC) is enabled in the computer. To enable the User Account Control on the computer follow these steps:

1. Type "Account Control" in the search bar on desktop and press "Enter".
2. In the "User Account Control Settings" window, move the slider to the default settings and click "OK".

If issue persists, run the App troubleshooter to fix issues that may prevent app from working properly.

Click here to download and run the Apps troubleshooter.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

Thank you.

Thank you.

This was useless advice.  We all obviously have the same problem based on the most recent Windows 10 Update.  It only happens with the calculator Application.  There is no error message just as the original poster described.  I also had to restore to a prior restore point after the most recent update.  The noticeable thing not working was Microsoft edge.  I had to revert to the prior build.  Now the calculator does not work.  Very buggy.

I have this problem too.  My calculator worked fine, then I installed the latest Windows 10 update and now I can't launch the calculator app.  It says it's already installed but it won't open.  I tried the steps listed above and it doesn't work.  The App Troubleshooter found nothing wrong.

I am having the exact same issue as described by others above.  Very frustrated that microsoft hasn't provided a resolution to this.  Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've also tried reinstalling from the Windows Store and I get an error code of 0x80070003.

I'm having the same problem with calculator and no support from windows! How do i get support to fix this issue?

I want to use calculator, it is a very helpful app and i can't open it! I noticed this problem after an update from windows 10 in Dec. 30th last year.

Can you please be helpful? My computer has all the system requirements for it to run, and it ran normally till Dec. 30th. Now I click on the app at nothing happens, and it is not listed in the apps list installed.

I am having the exact same issue.  When I select the calculator from either the start menu, the search bar function, or the quick key on my keyboard, I get the grey window that opens for a split second, then goes away.  I read on a separate string to try downloading the latest calculator version from the App Store.  Guess what?  The App Store app does the exact same thing...quick flash of a window opening, and then disappearing.

My Edge, Mail, and Calendar all seem to be working, but Solitaire is malfunctioning in the same way that Calculator and App Store are.  Who knows how many other functions have been negatively affected.

I am getting very, very frustrated with Windows 10 as I have had some sort of issue with each and every update that comes out.  I've spent so much time on the Microsoft Community pages, diagnosing, troubleshooting, running Windows utilities, and Cmd Prompt functions that I feel that I should now be Microsoft Certified!

I am having the same issues with the calculator. Also, when I click on my photos app it does the same thing...opens a black screen for a couple of seconds and then disappears. All of these bugs are so frustrating! I wish I would have never upgraded to Windows 10!

Mine does this as well - except I get no flash - just no opening at all.  The calendar opens from inside of outlook - but it doesn't launch from the quick search bar or from the app.

I tried the powershell recovery thing that is in other forums - namely running

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

This reported an error as items it was to update were in use - apparently cortana - which wasn't listed in the Task manager as running and which didn't seem to be running when I right clicked on the search bar.

Not sure how to proceed other than installing someone else's calculator from the store - but I miss my calculator and would rather have a trusted Microsoft calculator than a 3rd party app.
