Windows 10 Calculator app focus fail

When I launch the calculator with the button on my Microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard 4000 the calculator opens but it doesn't get to the foreground.

Then when I click the app in the task bar, the app show but I can't yet start to type numbers, I have to select the "display" field.

In Windows 7 I was able to hit the keyboard shortcut and start to crunch numbers right away.

Is there a fix to this?

EDIT: Another issue is that if you hit the calculator button multiple times, it opens multiple instances of the calculator. It would be nice if it just give focus to the already open one.

Hi Brian,

I suggest you to follow the suggestions below and check if that works.

Perform SFC scan on the computer and check if that helps.

SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary.

Hello Babu, Brian is not my name... but it's not a big deal.

The solution you suggested make me think you didn't understand the issue. Maybe I expressed myself badly.

The app works perfectly fine... I'll try to restate the issue:

If the app (calculator) is launched from the hardware button on the keyboard, the app won't acquire the focus and just  open in background.

If the app is launched from the "start menu" the focus on the app and numeric field is set properly.

I've got the exact same issue on a clean install of Windows 10 with a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard.

Odd how they can somehow break that.. It worked just fine in Windows 8.1.

Hi,

I have a Microsoft Comfort Keyboard 4000. Similar behavior however if use
the keyboard key the first time it only opens on the taskbar - subsequent
starts will show focus for a while then stop after a short period of time.
My taskbar auto-hides and if the calculator does not gain focus then the
taskbar will raise and show with the calc icon flashing.

Using Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center - Device Manager shows the
keyboard driver as 12/12/2013 9.5.172.0.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem. I have not found ideal solution :-/

But solve it by running a macro (in Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard software): "WinKey c a l c . e x e Enter"

It works, but the brief opening of the start menu is quite annoying.

Yes, works, but having to do this on MS's own hardware on Windows 10 is ridiculous.

Situation also presents itself with a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000...just in case you wanted to know if it was limited to just one type of Microsoft keyboard...

I have this exact same issue.

Windows 10 Home

Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

MS Mouse and Keyboard Center v 2.5.166.0

I tried the Macro as suggested in this thread, it too creates multiple instances so it is also a less than desirable "fix".
