Xbox Game Bar: I can't hear my party chat.

Hello, I am having trouble with the Xbox Game Bar for Win10. I have used this in the past to voice chat with my xbox friends while playing sea of thieves. Today I got on with my brother (who is using his laptop in my room) and a few friends who are using their xboxes somewhere else. We joined an xbox voice chat together, and they can all hear each other fine. They can all hear me. The problem is that I can not hear any of them. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Fix problems with Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10

If nothing happens when you press the Windows logo key + G, check your Xbox Game Bar settings. Open the Start menu, and select Settings > Gaming and make sure Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Xbox Game Bar is On.

If Xbox Game Bar doesn’t appear for a full-screen game, try keyboard shortcuts: Press the Windows logo key + Alt + R to start recording a clip, then press it again to stop. You’ll see the screen flash when the recording starts and ends.

I've been having the exact same problem. I can't hear anyone, but they can hear me. Well, I think I just found a workaround because now I can hear members in the Game Bar chat. I have to switch my audio output every session. For example:

* I got into a party on xbox game bar and can't hear anyone

* I go into the Party Chat settings.

* Audio output displays: Razer Audio Controller Game

* I switch output to my default of: THX Spatial - Synapse

* I hear the other members

So now, if I were to leave and go back into the party, I'd have to switch the Audio Output from the THX Spatial to Razer Audio Controller Game. Then, I can hear the members again. This isn't ideal, but at least I've found something that works for now. Just wish they'd fix this entirely.

bro, you gotta do it in these steps:

  1. Windows+G
  2. Start or Join a party. Window pops up, don't close.
  3. Ensure that you are in a party.
  4. with game bar open, click the gear wheel at the top of the screen.
  5. Click party chat tab.
  6. Click audio output option.
  7. Select another source.
  8. Click audio output option again.
  9. Select the correct source.
  10. Select audio input option.
  11. Select another source.
  12. Select audio input option again.
  13. Select the correct source.
  14. Close the settings.
  15. Ensure everything works by looking at the party chat window (that you didn't close) and see that your mic works by the circle that'll highlight around your icon. Or hearing from someone by ensuring their circle lights up as well.
  16. Enjoy this horrible bug. MS please ffs. We need this fixed asap.

This is exactly what I've been doing and it works, but as you mentioned it is extremely inconvenient.

Microsoft, please fix this as soon as possible! I'm tired of losing communications with my teammate in the middle of a match because you haven't bothered to fix a bug.

This is an insane task to have to do every time, and I mean every time you switch or start a party. Microsoft really needs to fix this very old bug.

I have the same issue, every time I join a new party the audio output changes. In settings it says that it is going through my headset but in actuality it is going through the speakers on my monitor. In order to fix this I have to change my output to the monitor speakers and then back to my headset, it works but is a pain to have to do this every time I join a party.

Of all the unhelpful bot responses yours is horrible.  No mention of anything audio related at all.  My god get an adjustment to your program.

Same here now that I've tried to use voice on cross-play.  Seems to be a very common problem that Microsoft wont fix.
