Hi Madeline,

Go to Start, click Settings > System > Apps & Features and click on "Photos" app. Under Advanced options, you'll find the reset button and this will allow you to reset the App. Once it's done, restart the PC and check if you can view the pictures now.

If the issue is not resolved, please follow the steps carefully on this forum.

Hello,

Try re-registering Photos app. Run following command in administrative Windows PowerShell:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Let us know if this helps!

The solution suggested in the post that you referenced does not resolve the Photos App error 2147219196.

The linked solution is:  UPDATE NOV 2016: Since I created the post below (roughly one year ago) it appears that Microsoft has added a new feature with the anniversary update that allows to reset the app without touching the registry. I suggest you try this first: Go to Start, then Settings, System, Apps & Features and click on "Photos" app. Under Advanced options you'll find the reset button.  If that still doesn't work, here is my old post....:

Also performed the command as suggested by Kapil Arya on 7/18.- unsuccessful.

Restarted my pc after doing both of the above suggested action and neither resolved the error. Still unable to use the Photos App.

No,they didn't Eric! Photos app as of now remain broken. No fix yet but there's a workaround for it if you want to be able to open your image files again: https://windowsreport.com/windows-7-photo-viewer-windows-10/

This link has instructions on how to use the registry to get the old Photo Viewer back on Windows 10.Try this and see if it works for you too.

Check out this link: https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/photos-store-apps-file-system-error-2147219196/

You'll want to look at "Step 4: Uninstall Photos, Remove Leftover Files and Reinstall".

(when you're at the psexec part, you might receive an error about access being denied to some of the files in the photos app folder (happened to me), just ignore them and continue untill the end of STEP 4).

When i first removed and reinstalled the photos app, it downloaded less than 100mb of data, and installed it.

With the steps, described in the above link, it downloaded over 300mb of data!

After install, the photos app is (for now) behaving as normal.

I'll keep you informed, should the problem return!

Thank you,Cartman! I knew that site already but decided to ignore it and find a way to get rid of the damn Photos app! :D

Yes,everything on that link worked to a fault.Photos has come back working again. That's great but...i'll keep the old Photo Viewer as the default for pictures.I missed it! XD

P.S.: Hey everyone, read Eric Cartman's last post and follow it to restore your Photos app.It works!!!

Thank you Eric_Cartman.

I figured out how to uninstall Photos and noticed when I reinstalled it that it restored data, meaning it didn't remove everything. I've been looking for a way to remove the leftover files and Step 4 did the trick. I reinstalled Photos and it's working again.

PalBorg, thank you for the information. I'll keep your solution in mind if I experience problems with Photos again.
