Hi.

I have a problem when trying to print using secure printing by Microsoft Edge or Microsoft Photos, do not open pop-up. Does anyone know how to enable the default Windows printing for these applications?

Hi Deepika Gowda.

Thanks for help me. Answering question below.

     1. What exactly are you trying to perform in the above post (Are you referring to print from Microsoft Edge)?

Yes, and app Microsoft Photos too.

     2. What are you referring to when you say Microsoft Photos (Are they the pictures on your computer)?

I refer to the app Microsoft Photos, when viewing and print from this app.

     3. What happens when you press Ctrl + P keys?

When press Ctrl + P, presents own "Print Previews", isn't the default from Microsoft Windows.

     4. What do you mean by secure printing how are you trying to do so?

I refer as "secure print" the option from Canon driver. Which retains the print on the device before printing, requesting username and password.

     5. Are you able to print any other documents/ files on your computer?     Yes. Since they do not use the Microsoft Photos or Microsoft Edge applications.

Kind regards.

Same issue here.  I've figured out that it only occurs when printing to a remote shared printer.  If you install the driver and printer directly on the computer, secure (pin protect) works fine from Edge/Photos.

I'm hoping a Canon driver update (due in September) will fix this issue, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

This has been an issue with the AppX applications since Windows 8.  I don't think Microsoft is going to address the problem or they would have already.

My kind-of-band-aid is to set a group policy that redirects intranet sites to IE and then set the Edge homepage to an intranet site.  I've also removed all shortcuts to Edge and made sure Edge isn't the default program for anything.  It's not enough because my queues still get stuck on a regular basis, but it's better than nothing.

I've started another question that deals directly with the problem I've having:

AppX applications like Edge and Photos lock print queue when printing with advanced features to a remote print server.

Hi,

Sounds like you need to be working with TechNet and Canon Support. Group Policy, large networks, server versions, and so on are all supported via TechNet.

Hi all,

We are having the same issues with secure print jobs sent from any Windows 10 AppX/Metro/Moder/Universal App - the pin prompt is not displayed and the print job is stuck in the queue, blocking the printer. Using Kyocera printers, the issue appears only when the printer is installed from the print server (Windows 2012 R2), but it works correctly when the printer is directly installed on the client.

Have you found any solution for this?

Thank you for any help, this is getting crazy already.

Thought I would share what worked for me for anyone else who comes across this.

I was having the same issue with canon secure print in edge and photos in windows 10 using server 2012. I was able to resolve the issue using the following steps.

  • Log onto the print server and open print management
  • under the "Drivers" section on the left hand side of print management, right click on the canon driver, go to isolation and select "none"
  • under the "Printers" section on the left hand side of print management, right click on the canon printer and select properties
  • in properties go to sharing
  • under sharing, deselect "Render print jobs on client computers"
  • Click "Apply", "OK"
  • right click on the canon printer again and select properties
  • in properties go to sharing
  • under sharing, reselect "Render print jobs on client computers"
  • Click "Apply", "OK"
