Edge won't resume downloads

Hi,

Microsoft Edge won't resume my downloads but start new ones. I'm just downloading a large office package for the second time, which costs me at least half an hour. That is not very practical.

Thanks,

Frank

I have not tried pausing a download yet. I did accidentally close out of edge while downloading two drivers, intel 4600, and NVidia 850m drivers, and edge did not resume the downloads on re-opening. If this is the expected behavior why are the partial downloads still available in my downloads folder? Also if this continues to function this way please at a minimum provide a dialog prompt warning users that the downloads will stop and clean up the partial downloads automatically please.

In my case it was also not a deliberate pause of the download on my part but closing the browser (I was installing another program which automatically closed Edge). So same problem, actually. Really weird that the downloads remain in the list, although one cannot resume them, I agree.

Are we just shooting the breeze here? Or is Microsoft going to comment/solve this issue?

I think they may be focusing more attention on the feedback app built in to 10 right now.

I had this issue as well. Here is a workaround.

Close Edge. Go to your downloads folder. There will be temporary files there associated with the partial downloads. Delete all of them except for the downloads you want to resume.

Open Edge again. Restart downloading one of your files again. Now, in an ideal world, Edge would see the old partial download and resume from there. However, for whatever reason, it doesn't.

So pause the download (but don't cancel it). Minimise Edge and go back to your downloads folder. There will now be 2 files there. One for your partially downloaded file from earlier, and one for the file you just started downloading. Copy the filename of the file you just started downloading. Then delete the file. Now rename the previous partially downloaded file with that filename.

Go back to Edge. Press resume on the download. Now it should find the partially downloaded file because it has the same filename as the one it just started downloading. With any luck it will start where it left off before and you won't have to restart the download completely.

Worked for me at least. Hope that helps someone.

Well, this tweak didn't work on my part. Not only did it overwrite my half-broken downloaded file, it also started over downloading it from scratch. Double loss of time for nothing. Microsoft has to take a look on this issue.
